Your Step by Step Essay Guide
To write an essay, you must know that any basic essay consists of three main parts: introduction, body, and conclusion.
You have to give a brief overview of the topic that you will talk about in your essay as an introduction. Then, you will write the topic in detail in the body of the essay. Finally, you have to summarize the main points and the result of your essay in the conclusion.
Step 1: Choose an Interesting Title
The title that you will write is going to tell your readers what your essay is talking about.
First, you have to choose relevant keywords for your subject and add them to phrases that tell your readers what to expect from your essay using figurative or formal language.
Second, avoid any negative terms even if your essay is talking against something or arguing about a problem. always try to use positive words to avoid offending a reader.
Third, capitalize all the first letters in your title, except conjunctions or prepositions.
Now compare these two essay titles:
- - Why Do People Become violent with their environment? ✗
- - Find Solutions to Educate People to Care About The Environment ✓
Step 2: Introduce Your Topic
The point of the introduction is to tell the readers what your topic is and why it’s important or interesting to write about it.
First, the hook which is the opening sentence that clearly conveys the relevance of your topic. Start it with a definition of your title or a question, or a short story that will get your readers wondering about your topic. For example:
- The rise of pollution has been accompanied by a sharp increase in the prevalence of health issues among people.
Second, specify the main points of your topic, and talk about the issues that you will argue about. Avoid any detail in your introduction. For instance:
- A recent study shows that pollution of all kinds kills millions of people worldwide each year. researchers found that air pollution from factories and the expansion of cities accounted for about half of the deaths. Air pollution also drove a high increase in all pollution-related deaths from 2018 to 2020.
Third, write your thesis statement and it will express the position that the rest of your essay will present evidence and arguments for. you can write it in one or two sentences without providing specific arguments for it at this point. For example:
- This essay argues that the government must educate their people about their environment, especially those who throw garbage and work in factories.
Fourth, the final part of your introduction is often a brief overview of the rest of the essay. For example:
- This essay will discuss several examples of pollution and then goes on to...
Step 3: Write Your Body Paragraphs
The body paragraph of your essay is where you fully develop your argument. Each body paragraph should contain one point, which is supported by evidence and details.
First, Follow the order of the main points that you wrote in the introduction.
Second, write the topic sentence which is the first sentence in a body paragraph that tells the readers the main idea of the paragraph.
Third, explain your idea and provide evidence to support your idea.
Step 4: Conclusion
The function of the conclusion is to gather the main ideas discussed in the body of your essay.
Begin your conclusion by re-stating your topic, then summarise your main points. Finish it by commenting on some issue or a recommendation to deal with the problem.
